in Special Session Wednesday, April 28th,
. 1937, at 7:30 P.1% in the Council Chamber
at the City Hall, Chairman Parks presiding.
PRESENT: Parks, Whitson, Schnitker, F.w.Briggs, L.W.
Briggs, Thompson, Insp.Nelson and Consultant
Tilton.
ABSENT: Palmer, Lind, Patterson.
The regular order of business was suspended
to take up matters requiring Mr. Tilton's
advice as he wished to make a train.
TRAFFIC REPORT: On motion by Com. Whitson, seconded
by Com. F. W. Briggs and carried, the Traffic
Report was accepted and ordered filed with-
out action and for study only after two
small alterations had been made.
TRACT x'742 VARIANCE: Action on the proposed front
yard variance for all of this tract except
. Lot 49 thereof having been deferred pursuant
to the advertised public hearing thereon
for the Consultant's advice, the matter was
again discussed without action being taken
on it.
METHOD OF PUBLISHING MAP FOR AMENDMENTS: Com. Whitson
brought this up for discussion with the At-
torney and Consultant, resulting in the
following recommendation: The Planning
Commission recommends to the Council the
enactment of a short Ordinance amending the
Ordinance #440 in such a manner as to cover
publication of the.districting map.when
amending any of the district boundaries, by
Inter-lineation.
The regular order of business was resumed.
MINUTES: The minutes of the Special Meeting of April
14, 1937, were approved as written.
a.M.FARVEY VARIANCE HEARING: 50% front yard - Lot
33, Tract 742. The Chairman declared the
hearing open. No persons were present to be
heard and no communications on the subject
were on Pile.. The hearing was declared
closed.
On motion by Com. F. W. Briggs, seconded by
Com. Schnitker and carried, a 50% variance
from ten feet to five feet of the front yard
requirement was granted on Lot 33, Tract
742 of Balboa Island.
*ELSON: Inspector Nelson mentioned a request for per-
mission to construct a Fish Smoker in the rear
of 118 23rd St. in Newport. This use is
prohibited anywhere in the City, and the Com-
mission was unanimous in support of this
provision of the Ordinance.
H.E.WAHLBERG: Displayed drawings for an addition to
the structure now existing on Lot 13, B1k.17,
Sec. "B ", which addition would be within 3
inches of the east lot line. The Attorney and
others explained the requirements of the
ordinance and the limitations imposed on the
Commission in the matter of variances there-
from. Per. Wahlberg reluctantly withdrew.
A. J. PRICE: 211 Emerald Avenue, Balboa Island, dis-
played drawings of a proposed structure
intended for Lot 13, Block 2, Sec. 1 of
Balboa Island which wxceeded the yard require-
. ments, even to the extent of building on the
lot lines.
He withdrew his drawings after explanation
of the ordinance.
On -notion the Commission adjourned to May
19th, 1937.
