To consider adding Section 20.08.290 to the AMENDMENT Newport Beach Municipal Code limiting the height N0. 32 of buildings.in Newport Beach CONTINUED Initiated by: The Planning Commission UN�— Newport Beach. JUNY-1 Chairman Dosh opened the public hearing with a statement as to the purpose of this.propo ed ordi- nance, noting that the.preservation of th charact r of the City of Newport. Beach was one of the _prime reasons.for this proposed ordinance. He stressed that the question before the Commission was one of "height ", not "density ". Mr. Dosh also read into the record a letter from the Newport.Heights Association dated May 16, 1972, Director of Community Development, Hogan addressed the audience indicating on a colored map-the exist ing height limits in the City. Before,going to a second map showing the proposed changes, Mr,Hogan reviewed the proposed ordinance step by step, following which he indicated these changes on a map which he noted had -been prepared as a result of work done by the Mayor's Ad Hoc >High.Rise Committee which consisted of three members of the City Council, three members of:the Planning Commis sion, citizen's. representatives, property owners with substantial interests, and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce. He stated further that the map did not .reflect the unanimous opinion of that Committee; that it reflected what could be called a.reluctant consensus of.that- Committee. Page 1. Hogan regarding.the.various.phases of.the proposed ordinance as well as questions regarding the existing Site Plane Ordinance. The following persons also spoke: Mr. Bob Sanborn of the Harbor View Hills Community Association; Mr. Allan Beek; and Mrs. Joseph Gallant, President of the Cliff Haven-Community Association, who aske that the record show that the Newport Heights Association and Cliff Haven Community Association had not been represented on the Ad Hoc High Rise Committee. Mr. Larry Moore; Associate Planning Administrator of the Irvine Company spoke, stating.that -the Irvine Company had not had. time to analyze the proposed ordinance a.nd would like additional time in order to present-an intelligent presentation. However, if the Commission were to take action at this time, he would like to have one•hour.to • make a presentation. Each.Commissioner outlined his and her opinion of this proposed ordinance and it was the consensus of opinion that the matter should be continued until the meeting of June.l, 1972 for further study. Mr; Hogan asked that each Commissioner submit suggestions to the Department of Community Development prior-to the next meeting and he would see that these were distributed to each Commission r.
