MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING OF PLANNING COMMISSION, WEDNESDAY, MAY 28, 1952 AT
ROLL CALL: Commissioners Present: Briggs, Copelin, Ellerbroek, Pleger, Reed, and I
Wightman.
Commissioners Absent: Longmoor, Rudd, and Smith.
Commissioner Copelin acted as Chairman in Commissioner Longmoor's place.
First for consideration was the application..for Use Permit by Jean Catlin f®r
abalone plant at 512 31st Street, Newport Peach. This was set over om ast
regular meeting to allow time for an opinion from the planning consultant.
Commissioner Briggs asked about the volume of business and disposition of
waste matter. Mrs. Catlin was present and stated that they Mndled 1500 pounds
a week of local abalone; trimmings, shells anri waste are taken out on boat add
dumpsd at sea. Health Department had inspected it. Building was designed to
meet their requirements. Commissioner Copelin stated that they had received a
letter from the planning consultants saying that it was an allowable use. No
further discussion.
Commissioner Ellerbroek made a motion that the application be granted to the
lessee and is valid only for thgmm at that address. Motion seconded by Commissioner
Reed and carried.
Application for Use Permit at 814 E. Bay Ave, for bait receiver. Boat Service
Inc. City Engineer has approved bait receiver as to design. They are-Wr x--81.
Commissioner Copelin explained that some protests had arisen and there was
nothing for the Commission to do but set the application for a hearing and have
property . posted and advertised for a hearing at the Planning Commission's re xt
regular meeting (June 19). So moved by Commissioner Pleger, seconded by Com-
missioner Reed and carried.

George Hoag had made out an application for Variance this afternoon and had come
owl n�o Trod out the Commission's feelings on it. Commissioner Briggs explained
the situation. Application was erddred channeled as usual and letter from
neighbor was to be submitted stating that he had no objection to Variance in
setbacks.
After considerable discussion with Mr. Patterson, Commission Reed made a motion,
seconded by Commissioner Pleger that the revised tentative Tract map on Tractl235
be approved. Motion carried.
There being no further busirmss, Commissioner Copelin made a motion for adjCurn-
ment, seconded by Commissioner Reed and carried.
