Session Wednesday, Jane 16,1937, 7 :30 P.M. at the
Council Chambers of the City Hall, Newport Beach, Calif.
• City Attorney Thompson advised the City Council had
received and accepted the resignations of Commissioners
Parks and Lind.
ROLL CALL: Present — L.W.Briggs, Roland Thompson City Atty.;
E.B.7hitson, P.A.Pali :ier, J.J.Sehnitker,Bldg.
Inspector A.'..`.Nelson.
Absent: R.L.Patterson and F.T.Briggs.
CHAIR':AN PRO TF1 — Secretary Briggs moved Co, ;,issioner
Sc'nnitker be appointed C'nairiran pro tem. Seconded by
Whitson. ?lotion Carr -led.
MINUTES: The Chairman pro tem called the meeting to order
and asked the Secretary to read t`,e minutes of a:eeting
of :'ay 26,1337. Linutes as written approved subject to
the following correction — On page thee, L.13.Briggs
as'.red to delete words "thesame day "in his statement
regarding his report on his findings on the MacCullough
case, making the statement to read "I saw him tearing
down" etc.,etc.

L.A. regarding iris house at 707 TSo.Bay Front, Balboa
Island. This party wants to remodel his present house
and hove it to center on his lot. Advised by B1dg.Insp.
*'elson it would be necessary to cut off 14-' from side
of house. In dais letter to Commission, ys. !!inium etatec
this was entirely out of the question as the cost was
prohibitive. Yr. Gordon Findlay, Contractor was present
and exhibited a photograph of the present building and
a sketch of proposed ii:Troved building. It was' brought
out that in centering the building on the lot, it would
cause a violation of the side „ard regulation of the
Zoning Crdin puce and also violate the State Law.
? +:r. Palmer suggested the Secretary be instracted to
write a letter to iLr.':.`.ini x:: informing him the reason
ti_e regaest could not be g'anted; quoting the State
• law wi_ich would be violated. Seconded by 77'nitson.
Motion carried.

Building Inspector reported on looking over plans 'r.e
found the bay window shown thereon would project 13"
over the set back lire. Tknere was some discussion as to
whether this could be allowed. 3ecret�jry Briggs stated
he would rr,ther see the front requirements cut do-nn in-
stead of the rear. Cited iiow Manning was based on gen-

that the commission recommend a 70" variance on front
yard. L.T.Brigea moved that a 30� variance on front yard
on Lot 1 B1._ 4, Sec.2, Balboa Island, property of Geo.

3`r. P.A.PsLaer referred to his letter dated Dy 21,1937,
to the City Planning Corr*ission, regarding the sitaation
on Lido Isle in regards to corner lots on cross streats.
It tipas ':.is contention the side y?rd variance allowed in
the Ordinance co-1-1-d not be used on such lots and that .
the Ordinance should be amended to grant relief Vnereon.
This bro-a& t -up some discussion about amending the Ord.
and the advisability .thereof.
Judge Hyer asked if he :ai ght com:.ent arid. offered sug-

being needed, nwaely Tract 742, Balboa, Island, Setbacks
on crater front lots.
Attorney Thompson suggested that the corc.:ission ;proceed
carefu'_ly on proposed amendr2ents and not anticipate too
much. Take them up one at a time and carefully study
their need.
. "r. Palmer wanted a :nearing set for the next meeting
June 23,1937 and 1. ^.Briggs didn't think he could get
notice prepared and in caper in time for publication.
Cor.palmer loved that his application for an amendment
to Ordinance #4'10 regarding, side V,�rd variance on nido

at the next r:eeting J-Me 23,1537, and that he 7e.ld
