MINUTES OF THE SPEC L4 PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING, MONDAY,
AUGUST 6, 1951 AT :00 P.M. IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS OF THE
NEWPORT BEACH CITY HALL
ROLL CALL: Commissioners Present: Briggs, Copelin, Ellerbroek, Longmoor,
Pleger, Rudd, Reed, and Smith. Commissioners Absett:. Wightman.
Minutes of the last regular Planning Commission meeting on July
19th were held over for approval at the regular meeting for
August 16th, 1951.
PUBLIC HEARINGS•
Application for Variance ( #27) by Lillian H. McAdoo, 1000
W Balboa Blvd, Newport Beach, Tract 626, Block 6, Lot 10, stating
that the front setback would be too expensive to correct sine the
front is in and the cement slab has been poured. Loan caqupaVy
holding a $10,000 loan refuses owner permission to change plans.
Chairman opened the hearing and asked if anyone wished to speak fQ
or against the application.
Arthur Nisson spoke representing adjoining property owners.
Opposed the granting of the app lication as being detrimental to
the view. No written protests on file.
After considerable discussion, Commissioner Copelin made a
motion that the hearing be closed, seconded by Commissioner Pleger
and carried. The Chairman asked the Commission what they wished
to do.
Commissioner Ellerbroek made a motion that the Variance be
granted with the condition that the stairway be 30" away from the
corner in an easterly direction and that the stairway have an open
rail. Motion seconded by Commissioner Pleger and carried by the
following roll call vote, to -wit:
AYES: Commissioners: Briggs, Reed, Ellerbroek,. Rudd,
Smith, Pleger, Longmoor, and Copelin.
Nov S: None
ABSENT: Commissioners: Wightman
Application for Use Permit by Norm Begg Company, 901 Coast
Hwy for light manufacturing assembly and sales. Front remodeled
into sales room and office light machinery in rear. C -2 zone which
is correct zone, just one of the items that needs a Use Permit,
Commissioner Rudd moved the Use Permit be granted, seconded by
Commissioner Copelin and carried.
Application for Use Permit by Wayne Newman for ceramic Manu-
facturing atr6902 Coast Hwy. Light electrical machinry to be used. '
Building already there and in proper zone, C -2. Commissioner Reed
made a motion that the application for use permit be granted,
seconded by Commissioner Rudd and carried.
Application of Newport Bay Company, 1600 Coast Highway,
for construction of 42 adjoining garages. R-4 zone. Setback
' problem and it was agreed that the best thing to do would be
have the Balboa Bay Club apply fora Variance for relief from
the ten foot setback, and bring up for next regular meeting,
August 16th, 19510
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, Commissioner Cope -
lin made a motion that the meeting be adjourned, seconded by
Commissioner Reed and carried.
