MINUTES OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING FOR THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER.219 1950
AT 7:30 P.M .IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBER OF THE NEWPORT CITY HALL
ROLL .Commissioners Present: Briggs, Copelin, Longmoor, Rudd, and Wightman.
CALL Commissioners Absents Daniell, Ellarbroek, Pleger, and Smith.
MINUTES: Commissioner Briggs moved to approve the minutes of the Planning Commission
meeting of July 20th as submitted to the Commission, seconded by Commissioner
Copelin and carried.
Commissioner. Rudd made a motion approving the adjournment from the scheduled
meeting of August 17th to August 24th for want of a quorum. Notion seconded
by Commissioner Rriggs and carried.
Commissioner Copelin made a motion to approve the minutes of the adjourned meet-
ing of August 24th as submitted to the Commission, seconded by Commissioner Rudd
and carried.
PUBLIC Variances Chairman Longmoor declared the first hearing open on the application
HEARINGS: of Albert S. D'Agostino for a variance on Lot 16, Block 3; Section 5, Balboa
Island (127 Jade St) so that he may be allowed a five (5) foot setback on Jade
Avenue.
The applicant was not present and so the Chairman asked for the Committee's re-
port. Commissioner Copelin said that he and Mr. Nelson had looked it over and
that the house adjoining the property on the South was five and a half (51) feet
from the street. After further discussion, Commissioner Copelin moved the hear-
ing be closed, seconded by Commissioner Wightman and carried.
Commissioner Copelin then made a motion that a four (4) foot variance be granted
establishing the setback line six (6) feet from the street. Motion seconded by
Commissioner Wightman and carried by the following roll call vote to-wit:
AYES: Commissioners Briggs, Copelin, Longmoor, Rudd, and Wightman.
NOES: None
ABSENT: Commissioners Daniell, Ellsrbroek, Pleger, and Smith.
Ygrianeet Chairman Longmoor declared the second variance application of Charles
M. Cotton for a 50% front yard variance on Lots 4, 5, and Wly J of 6, Block 249
East Side Addition (1509 Bay Ave, Balboa) open and asked if anyone wished to
speak for or against.
Mr. J. H. Brownell was present, representing Mr. Ellerbroek, who represented
Mr. Cotton and submitted a drawing for the Commission to inspect—Discussion.
Commissioner Copelin moved the bearing be closed, seconded by Commissioner Rudd
and carried. Commissioner Copelin then made a motion that a 2J foot variance be
granted, seconded by Commissioner Rudd and carried by the following roll call
vote, to-wit:
AYES: .Commissioners Briggs, Copelin, Longmoor, Rudd, and Wightman
NOES: None
ABSENT: Commissioners Daniell, Ellerbroek, Pleger, and Smith.

journment, seconded by.Commissioner Rudd and carried.
