HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/20/1945233 The Newport Beach City Planning Commission held a regular meeting Thursday December 20, 1945, at 7 :50 p:m., in the Council Chamber, City Hall, Newport ' Beach, with Chairman Allen presiding. Commissioners present: Allen, Ellerbroek, Longmoor, Nelson, and Patter son.ROLL CATS, Commissioners absent: Baltz, Isbell, Johnson, and Seeger. Commissioner Longmoor made the motion, seconded by Commissioner Ellerbrosk MINUTES that the minutes of the meeting of November 29, 1945, be approved as read. Motion carried and so ordered. A letter from Louis N. Spielberger, 3712 Channel Place, Newport Beach, was COMMUNICATIONS read by Secretary Ellerbroek, requesting front and rear yard setback changes .foxy Lot'69 Block 67, .Canal Section, Newport Beach, together with sketch showing locations of other houses in the block and also signatures of the adjacent owners in agreement with Mr. Spielbergers request. No filinf fee accompanied the letter, therefore Commissioner Patterson made the motion, seconded by Commissioner Longmoor, that the matter be advertised for public hearing at a Special Meeting of the Commission on January 3, 1946, provided Mr. Spielberger first file the $10.00 for advertising costs. Motion carried. The Secretary also read a letter from Mr. Max R. Bann, of Corona Del Mar, requesting a 10 foot setback instead of the present 20 foot, for the property adjoining the Palisades Tavern on Seaview Avenue. After some discussion, Mr. Bann, being present, the Commission sugge ted that he apply for a change df setback of 1132 feet to comply with the setback of the Tavern. ' Public hearing on the application of W. B. Kilpatrick, for a.2A foot set- PUBLIC back variance for Lot 3, Block C-53, Corona Del Mar, was declared, and NGS heard, with no one protesting same, and after consideration by the Coon - mission, Commissioner Longmoor made the motion seconded by Commissioner Nelson, that the Commission recommend to the City Council the approval of the application. ROLL CALL Ayes: Allen, Ellerbrosk, Longmoor, Nelson, and Patterson. VOTE Noes: None. Mdton carried and so ordered. Puhl.ic hearing on the application of F. Norwood Yale for a 50%(from 10 feet to 5 feet) setback variance for Lot 1, Block A, Tract 518, Balboa, was declared and heard. No one appeared to protest same, and although a let- ter of approval from an adjoining property owner was received, recommend- ing the change, the combined view of the Commission was to the effect that if §eanted that all of the other lots in the block would have to, or would regeust the same change. Commissioner Patterson made the motion, seconded by Commissioner Nelson, that the application be denied, and a recommenda- tion to this effect be sent to the City Council. ROLL CALL Ayes: Allen, Ellerbroek, Longmoor, Nelson, and Patterson. Noes: None. Motion carried and so ordered. Public hearing on the application of Clifford F. Drake for a 50% change ' of rear yard setback for Lot 93, and the southerly half of Lot 94, Block A East Newport; was declared and heard, with no one appearing to protest, but a letter from the adjoining property owners recommending same was read. Commissioner Patterson made the motion, seconded by Commissioner Nelson that;.the Commiesion..reeommend to the City Council the apixoval of the app - lication. ROLL CALL Ayes: Allen, Ellerbroek, Longmoor, Nelson, and Patterson. VOTE 234 Noes; None. Motion carried, and so ordered. OI BUSINESS The proposed lease to T. Kilkenny of the City owned property on Coast Highway, tabled from the last meeting, was brought up, and after some discussion, Commissioner Longmoor made the motion, seconded by Commis- sioner Ellerbroek, that the matter be referred to the Commission as a whole, as a committee, for consideration.and final action at the Spec- ial Meeting set for January 3, 1946. Motion carried, and so ordered. NEW BUSINESS Tentative map No. 1116, a Raymond'.A.'..Dorh.subdivision for Corona Del Rear, was presented, and as given careful consideration as well as comparison with other subdivisions local and elsewhere. This sub- division, according to.City Engineer and Commissioner Patterson, and its subdividers have petitioned for annexation to the City of Newport Beach. Commissioner Patterson made the motion, seconded by Commissioner Longmoor, that the Commission recommend to the County Planning Commiss- ion the approval of the map, with the further recommendation, that in view of no proposed alleys that the roadways be made 36 feet from curb to cmb, instead of the 30 feet as sketched, and proposed. Motion carried. Informal discussion, with no action asked or taken, was given tentative map Not 1136, for Newport "eights, presented by Tom Henderson, realtor, who described and explained the proposed subdivision, and requested suggestions of the Commission.
