Chairman Hopkins presiding. Meeting was called to order by the Chairman. ROLL CALL - Commissioners present: Hopkins, Seager, Williams, Findlay, Briggs, Schnitker,. Vlhitson. Cor- missioners absent: Patterson. Attny.Thompson and B1dg.Insp. Nelson attended. Chairman inquired of the Secretary if this was an adjourned meeting. Secretary stated that it was.an adjourned meet- ing from December 15th, 1937. He said there had been some misunderstanding on Mr. Tilton's part as to the date of this meeting and that he had just received a letter from him saying that he would be unable to attend the meeting this even- ing, but could attend if a meeting were held on the 20th of December. Chairman Hopkins said that since the meeting had been called to hear Mr. Tilton's discussion of the Traffic Plan, the meeting would adjourn to December 29th if there was no other business.to come before the Commission at this time. REQUEST FOR VARIANCE Per. Markel, representing the Southern California Telephone Co. came before the Commission to request a.variance for proposed addition to their building on Bay Avenue. Mr. Nelson could not grant a permit as it is in an R -3 zone and he had suggested that Mr. Markel request approval by the Planning Com- mission. £Yr. Markel presented the plans of the building with the proposed addition for the ins- pection of the Commission. Chairman Hopkins informed ; - ;,r. =1 -arkel that the request must be presented in application form be- fore it can be considered by the Commission. No action can be taken until it is presented in the proper form, notices sent to the surrounding property owners and hearing date advertised, when presented in the proper form, the commission will be glad to consider the variance. REVERSION TO ACREAGE Attny. Thompson brought up the matter of the approval of Mr. Harvey's map of Tract 1007, suggested some action be taken on the tentative approval of this map. He.said that rr. Harvey had written a letter to the Commission at the time the first maps were submitted. Secretary read the letter dated October 13, • 1937, received from Mr. Harvey. Thompson said that Patterson had gone over the maps with ham and explained them to him. Partof the property through which the commission asked them to extend the alley is not owned by the Newport Harbor corporation and is improved with houses. Mr. Greeley, one of the members of the Newport Harbor Corp. was present and explained that they did not intend to gcugire the property necessary to extend the alley straight through. He said to do so would sacrifice 3 houses of Plumer Court. He sees no need for an alley going straight through the property as an "L" shaped alley would give sufficient service. Chairman inquired of Thompson the proper pro - cedure -in a matter of this kind. Thompson said ^that the Comrission should ap- prove the tentative map and then it can be submit- ted to the Council for consideration. The Chair ruled that no action could be taken at this meeting since Mr. Patterson has the maps . and he was not present to present them. ADJOURNMENT On motion of ,Ihitson, seconded by Schnitker, the meeting adjourned to meet at 7:30 P.M. December 29th, 1937, in the Council Chambers. Motion carried and so ordered by the Chairman. Respectful]lyy submitted, HOVIARD W. SEA , SECRETARY 0
