AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH DECLARING
IT TO BE UNLAWFUL TO OPE-
RATE OR DRIVE AT CERTAIN
i� PLACES WITHIN SAID CITY ANY
MOTOR VEHICLE AND PR_-
SCRIBING A PENALTY FOR ALL
VIOLATIONS THEREOF.
The Board of Trustees of the City
of Newport Beach do ordain as fol-
lows:
Section 1. The words "motor ve-
hicle" r.a used in this ordinance shall
include and be construed to mean all
vehicles propelled othernvise than b;'
muscular power, except such us run
upon stationary tracks or rails.
Section 2. It shall be unlawful and
constitute a misdemeanor for any per-
son to ride in or upon, or to operate
or drive, any motor vehicle as deFmed
In this Ordinance, upon that portion
of the City of Newport Beach corn -
monly known and designated as the
beach, and which is the strip of land
lying between the waters of the Pa-
_- cific Ocean and the southerly lice of.
Surf Avenue and Ocean Avenue„
Section 3. Any person who shall
do any of the things in this ord)na.uco
declared to be unlawful shall be deem.
ad guilty of a misdemeanor and upon

conviction thereof in a court of com-
petent jurisdiction shall be punished
by a fine not exceeding fifty dollars
($50.00) or by imprisonment not ex-
ceeding thirty (30) days, or by both
such fine and imprisonment it the die -
cretion of the court.
Secton 4. The above and foregoing
Ordinance shall be published once in
the Newport News, a newspaper of
general circulation, printed and pub-
lished In the City of Newport Beach,
and shall take effect and be in forco
thirty days after its passage.
This Ordinance No. 166 was passed
at a regular meeting of the Board of
Trustees of the City of Newport
Beach held on the first day of March.
1920, by the affirmative vote of the fol-
lowing named members thereof, and
on said day was signed and approved
by the President of said Board of
Trustees:
Ayes — Trustees J. P. Greeley, J. J.
Schnitker, A. L. Picard, J. C. McCain,
L, S. Wilkinson.
Noes —None.
Absent —None.
