ORDINANCE NO. 14 5 2
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
AMENDING SECTION 12.56.140 OF THE NEWPORT
BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE TO PERMIT THE RIDING
OF BICYCLES ON CERTAIN SIDEWALKS IN
CONNECTION WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF BICYCLE
TRAILS
The City Council of the City of Newport Beach DOES ORDAIN
as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 12.56.140 of the Newport Beach
Municipal Code is amended to read:
"12.56.140 Operating Bicycle on Sidewalk. No person
shall operate or ride a bicycle, surrey cycle, pedicab, or
other wheeled device or conveyance used for transportation and
propelled by human power, upon any sidewalk in the City,
except that bicycles may be ridden on the sidewalks located
as follows:
South one -half of sidewalk on Ocean Front between F Street
and McFadden Place and between the westerly line of
the Ocean Front Parking Lot and 36th Street;
Jamboree Road, westerly side, from Eastbluff Drive (Ford
Road) to Bayside Drive;
Dover Drive, westerly side, from Cliff Drive to 495 feet
northerly of the center line of Coast Highway;
Eastbluff Drive, westerly side, from the northerly Corona
del Mar High School driveway to Jamboree Road;
Cliff Drive, southerly side, from Kings Place to Dover
Drive;
Ford Road, southerly side, between Jamboree Road and a
point 900 feet east of Newport Hills Drive West;
MacArthur Boulevard, westerly side, between Port Sutton
Drive and Pacific View Drive;
Pacific View Drive, southerly side, between MacArthur
Boulevard and a point 1200 feet west of Marguerite
Anue;
Irvine Avenue, east side, between Santiago Drive and
University Drive.
The foregoing prohibition shall not apply to children's
or invalids' tricycles, wheelchairs or skateboards."
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be published once in the
0 official newspaper of the City, and the same shall be effective
30 days after the date of its adoption.

This ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of
the City Council of the City of Newport Beach held on the 26th
day of June , 1972, and was adopted on the 16th day of
July , 1972, by the following vote, to wit:
