The USFWS has also declared critical habitat for the endangered San Diego Fairy Shrimp on the Banning Ranch mesa. Cactus Wren Banning Ranch contains the largest population of Cactus Wrens, a species of Special Concern, in coastal Orange County. Banning Ranch contains a wide variety of avian, animal, reptile, amphibian and insect species, including other protected species like the least Bell's vireo & the California least tern. Banning Ranch Conservancy Formed as an IRS - recognized 501(c)3 non - profit land trust California corporation in 2008 Operated as the Banning Ranch Park and Preserve Task Force of the Sierra Club beginning in 1999 Mission Statement: *The preservation, acquisition, conservation and management of the entire Banning Ranch as permanent public open space, park and coastal nature preserve.
