Subject: Balboa Center Renovation
Recently, Drew Wetherholt shared with you some concerns residents have of the
renovation, of the shopping center at 32nd and Newport Blvd. I wanted to provide for
you some additional photos for you to review and share some other concerns.
The photos I provided were taken by me on Tuesday, 2 -2 -2010, at 9am. As you can see 3
large semi trucks were parked behind the Albertson's store at the same time. This is very
typical of the center. There is usually 2 or 3 other small trucks parked in this same lot, at
the same time. We are very concerned about how these trucks will navigate through this
lot with the proposed changes. As residents we are absolutely opposed to the trucks
driving down 30th Street towards Balboa Blvd. when they leave the parking lot. This
would have a major impact on the quality of life in our neighborhood.
Additionally, I feel only employee parking should be allowed behind the east side of the
shopping center. There is no reason for customers to park in the back of the center since
all of the entrance doors face the west side of the center. This opens up more parking for
customers to the front of the stores and keeps customers from using the back doors to
enter the businesses, helping to limit the noise to the rear of the stores.
Finally, can we please add a condition that no businesses will sell alcohol. I believe the
owner of the property does not have any plans to do this and this ensures the residents
will not have to fight future battles each time food establishment wants to add alcohol to
the menu.
Thank you for your time.
