We were happy to have the area improved and do not understand why the planning department of Newport Beach is so obstinate in approving the completion of the building. 1 have seen the building both inside and out and it is nice and seems to be well constructed. It was built on the same foundation of the old dilapidated structure which had a 5 foot rear setback. I have spoke to other neighbors as well and the general feeling for the new construction is that it improves the area and we look forward to the project being competed. Please approve the existing project with the 5 foot rear 1761- the betterment of our neighborhood and for the Voyer Family who have been such pleasant and caring neighbors. Thank- you. .Sincerely, Q.- W)aQz Debbie Bonfield Jul 22 10 05:08p Preservation Partners ( 530 ) 876 -8754 .131 1 NEWPORT FEDERAL July 22, 2010 Planning Commission CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH 3300 Newport Boulevard Newport Beach, CA 92663 RE: 20442 Santa Ana Avenue To Whom It May Concern: 1 am a director of Newport Federal and its subsidiaries and have known Dwm Voyer and his family for 12 years. Throughout those years, as a friend and business associate, I have Mr. Voyer to be a man of his word and hold him in the highest esteem. If there was any way I could be present at this hearing I would be to offer my testimony and whatever support possible. I am writing to urge the City Planning Commission to grant Mr. Voyer a modification permit for his home at 20442 Santa Ana Avenue. As an asset holding company and commercial lender, headquartered in Newport Beach since 1970, and with significant real property holdings here, We have had numerous dealings with the Ciry. Most of these tamed our very welt for cveryope involved. In my experience the City has really reached to be helpful in situations like this, particularly in difficult economic times when strict adherence to City rules and ordinances CAR impose far greater hardship on residents and businesses. Consequently it was a surprise to 10"11 that Mr. Voyer has been having so much difficulty working out a resolution to this matter ha qnd his family can live with. The Voyers have been working for two years to resolve this matter with the City and f0TOSIA11 a financially devastating demolition of improvements on Their property. They even hired the top architect in the area, Brion Jeannette, to help present solutions acceptable to the City. All apparently to no avail. It is my understanding that properties adjacent to Mr. Voyer's have only five -foot rear setbacks and that no one in Mr. Voyer's neighborhood opposes the modification he is requesting. One would certainly hope a resolution short of wholesale destruction of property could be found. To the extent working to help its residents and businesses be secure and prosper is a priority for the City of Newport Beach — in my experience it has been — in hard economic times that priority becomes especially vital to the Conununiry. t respectfully request that the Planning Comtnisslon use all discretion it can to assist this Newport Beach family in completing their project with the approval of the modification for the rear setback.
