C°®py A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH, ADOPTING AMENDMENTS TO SECTION 25, 48 and 49 OF SPEC CIFICATION NO. 27, ADOPTED "BY RESOLUTION NO. 97 FOR THE CON- STRUCTION OF SANITARY SEWERS WITH CEMENT SEWER PIPE, MANHOLES, JUNCTION CHAMBERS, PUMPING STATIONS, RECEIVING BASINS, SEPTIC TANK AND OTHER APPURTENANCES IN THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH. Be it resolved by the Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach that the following amendments to Section 25,48 and 49 of Specifications No. 27, adopted by Resolution No. 97 for the construction of sanitary sewers with cement sewer pipe, manholes, junction chambers, pumping stations, receiving basins, septic tank and other appurtenances in the City of Newport Beach are hereby adopted and the said sections of 25, 48 and 49 as amended shall read as follows: 25• BROKEN STONE AND GRAVEL. GRAVEL: Gravel shall be clean, hard and free from more than five per cent, by weight, of sand, and shall have sizes ranging from one - quarter inch minimum, up to a size passing through a two -inch ring. Not less than 30 per cent of its volume shall be material which will pass a three - quarter inch screen. BROKEN STONE: Broken stone shall be the run of the crusher, except however, that not more than five per cent of its volume shall be material which will pass throu94 a one - quarter inch mesh screen, not less than 30 per cent of its volume shall be material whihc will pass a three- quarter inch mesh screen. It shall be clean, hard and durable in quality and shall range in size from the minimum noted above up to such size as will pass a two -inch ring. TESTING GRAVEL AND BROKEN STONE: At least 3C pounds of the material to be tested shall be available for the test. Each sample when ready for the rattler shall consist of five kilogra of said material, all shall pass a 2 -inch screen, 6C per cent -1- I • 2 • 3 4 • 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 • • 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 by weight, shall be retained on a 3/4 inch screen and all shall be retained on a '91-inch screen, the said sample shall be tested in a rattler consisting of a metal cylinder 28 inches in diameter and 2C inches in length, longitudinally mounted on a horizontal shaft and having a shelf four inches wide extending from end to end. During the test the rattler shall be revolved at a rate of between 28 and 30 revolutions per min- ute. A charge for the rattler shall consist of the five kilogram sample and fourteen cubical blocks of cast iron with rounded corners and edges, said blocks measuftng about one and one -half inches in each dimension and have a weight of five kilograms. After receiving the charge the rattler shall be given five hundred revolutions. The sample shall then be screened and the portion, by weight, which will pass a 16- mesh screen shall be considered and designated as the loss. Gravel, unless otherwise specified, shall not show a loss of more than 50 per cent and borken stone shall ntt show a loss of more than 22 per cent. 48. Pumps and Motors. The contractor shall furnish and install at the location indicated on the plans of the pumping stations, bottom suction, vertical, sbumerged, centrifugal type pumps with balanced open impellers of the capacity designated on the plans, and to connec the pumps directly with motors, which shall be of the horse- power designated on the plans, and to conform to the current designated on the plans. They must operate continually without any aigns of sparking or overload and must not show a rise in temperature of more than 4C degrees above the surroundigg atmosphere. They shall be of the vertical type with enclosed top -heads and self - oiling bearings. -2- I • 2 • 3 4 • • • 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 Pumps are to be directly connected to motors by flexible couplings immediately below the motors. They shall be sus- pended from the floor of the pump room by flanged pipe hangers in which pump shafts shall be enclosed and which shall not be used as discharge pipes. Pump shafts and impellers shall be supported by genuine babbit thrust and guide bearings and inter- mediate guide bearings inserted in hanger pipes in all cases where depth of basin is six feet or over. All bearings shall be supplied with grease by oen compression cup located above the fibor line. Suction of pumps shall be fitted with a heavy Iron strainer of large area. Discharge connections shall be furnished and installed with all proper fittingstand mounted on floor of pump room with flanged pipe hangers. Automatic controllers shall be mounted on the floor of the pump rrom and shall include automatic float, switches, operated by cooper floats Wd th guided brass rods, float pipes, knife switches and fuses, phase protective devices for polyphase motors and resistance starters if size of motor requires them. Space must be also provided on the controller panel for meter. Stuffing boxes and gaskets must be provided in all cases to the make the floor of the pump room gas tight. The contractor shall furnish and make all electrical con- nections complete in every respect ready to connect with meter, in accordance with the specifications of the National Board of Fire Underwriters. 49. SEPTIC TANK, PUMPING STATIONS AND RECEIVING BASINS The septic tank, pumping stations aid receiving basins shall be constructed in accordance with the materials specified on the plans and in the manner and of the dimensions shown thereon. -3- I The concrete shall be placed in continuous operations and in • 2 such a manner that all walls, floors, etc. are securely bonded 3 and f©vming adense, homogeneous mass, well finished and in • 4 every respect complete and in accordance with the requirements • 5 contained in these specifications as to materials, mixing and 6 laying, excepting as may be otherwise specifically designated 7 on the plans. 8 Said Specifications No. 27 shall stand and be effective 9 in all respects the same as originally adopted by Resolution 10 No. 97 save and excepting that Sections 25, 48 and 49 of said 11 specifications shall be and stand as set forth in this resoluti 12 I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution, being 13 Resolution No. 131 was duly and regularly introduced and 14 adopted by the Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach, 15 at a regular meeting of said Board held on the 6th day of 16 July, 192C, and that the same was passed by the following 17 vote, to wit: 18 AYES, TRUSTEES: J.P.
