WHEREAS, by Statutes of 1931, Chapter 397, it is
provided that not less than the general prevailing rate of per
diem wages for work of a similar character in the locality in
which the work is performed, and not less than the general pre-
vailing rate of per diem wages for legal holiday and over -time
work shall be paid to all laborers, workmen and mechanics
employed by or on behalf of any city in the State of California,
engaged in the construction of public works, exclusive of
maintenance work; and
WHEREAS, it is further provided that the public
body awarding any contract for public work on behalf of a city
shall ascertain the general prevailing rate of per diem wages
in the locality in which the work is to be performed for each
craft of type of workman or mechanic needed to execute the
contract; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach is about to
call for bids for the dredging of the entrance channel to Newport
Bay, which notice is to be given pursuant to Statute and
Resolution No. j,29 of the City of Newport Beach, adopted
on the 8th day of February, 1932•
N0W, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach hereby declares and states that they have ascertain-
ed the prevailing rate of per diem wages in the locality in which
the work contemplated is to be performed for each craft or type
• of workman or mechanic needed to execute the contract, which said
City Council does declare and state to be as follows, to -wit:

For legal holidays (except Saturday afternoon) and over-
time work, the general 7 evailing rate for each of the
respective crafts, or type of workmen or mechanics to be
one and one -half times the prevailing rate of per diem
wages.
I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution wad duly
and regularly passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach, at a regular adjourned meeting thereof held on the
5th day of February, 1932, by the following vote, to -wit:
