VI1rf1EAS, the question of the future status of oil dril

ing within or under the Oy of Newport Beach is of such impor-
7
tanee that any question thereon should receive the careful can-
s
sideration and approval or disapproval of the citizens of the
9
City of Newport Beach;

NOW, THETIFFORE, BE IT RESZVED AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1: That at the general municipal election, to
12
be held on the 13th day of April, 19541 there shall be submitted
13
to the qualified electors of said City of Newport Beach the pro -
14
position of adding Section 9124.1 to the Municipal Code of the
15
City of Newport Heaeh, so as to provide that any expansion of
16
oil drilling within or under the City of Newport Beach shall be
17
subject to the approval or disapproval of the voters at an else -
18
tion.

SECTION 2: That sai+? proposition shall be submitted to
20
the qualified electors of said City at said election by a proposi-
21
tion to be worded as follows:

"PROPOSITION No. 4
23
Shall Section 9124.1 be added to the Municipal Code, pro -
24
viding for the submission to the approval of the majority
25
of voters at an election, any Question of the expansion of
26
or change in the oil drilling area within or under the City
27
of Newport Beach, specifically excluding any oil drilling
28
operations or agreements in effect at the time of the pas -
29
sage of this ordinance, be adoptedl"

SECTION 3: If a majority of the electors voting at sue]

election shall vote In favor of the foregoing proposition, then
32
said ordinance shall be passed as provided for by said propositloi

2 SECTION 4: Th# City Council of the City of Newport
• 3 r4caah shall cause the Citj!�;lerk to print this ordinance and
4 mail copies thereof, enclosed in an envelope with a sample ballot,
5 to each voter at least 10 days prior to the election.
6 The above and foregoing Resolution was duly and regul-
7 arly passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Newport
8 Beach, at a regular adjourned meeting thereof, held on the 2nd
9 day of Maroh, 1954, by the following vote, to wit:
