A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH RECOMMENDING ROUTE FOR CORONA DEL
MAR FREEWAY
WHEREAS, the State Division of Highways held a public hearing
on a proposed realignment of Route 184, The Corona del Mar Freeway, on
August 2, 1962; and
WHEREAS, the State Division of Highways offered three alter-
native routes for consideration; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach and its
administrative staff have reviewed the three routes carefully; and
WHEREAS, members of the City Council and the administrative
staff were present at the public hearing and noted the recommendations
of other public and private agencies; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach is in
agreement that a route southerly of the airport extending in a westerly
direction to the San Diego Freeway offers the best traffic service for
the City;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach endorses Alternate No. 1 or some variation of it
and urges its adoption by the State Highway Commission; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in the precising of the route
by the State Division of Highways, it is recommended that said route
be placed immediately adjacent to the north side of Palisades Road so
as to be the least disruptive of potential industrial land which is
important to the economic well -being of the City of Newport Beach.
