21 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF

5 e'HERM -S, the California Highway Commission has adopted an
6 alignment for the Route 1 Freeway within the city limits of the Cit;
7 of Newport Beach; and
8 WFUME EAS, The Irvine Company is the owner of certain real
9 property in the City of Newport Beach located westerly of 1,iacArthur
10 Boulevard and northerly of the 2acific Coast Highway and plans to
11 develop a major commercial center on said property; and
12 ITE2 .E.AS, The Irvine Company has requested that the City
13 Council of the City of Newport Desch seek the approval of the
14 California Highway Commission for two public street connections
15 across the adopted Route 1 Freeway in order to provide access to
16 Pacific Coast Highway at the locations hereinafter described to
17 serve said commercial center; and
18 WHEREAS, the City Council has determined to comply with
19 said request solely for the purpose of accommodating The Irvine
20 Company; and
21 1,AMLEAS, Section 100.2 of the Streets and Highways Code
22 of the State of California provides that no city street shall be
23 opened into any adopted freeway route unless and until the CalifV4
24 nia aghway Commission adopts a resolution consenting to such corgi
25 nection; and
26 iTMAS, by adopting this resolution the City Council
27 wishes it to be clearly understood that it has not changed its
28 position as stated in Resolution No. 6099 adopted on January 11,
• 29 1965, wherein the City Council expressed its opposition to the
30 coastal route for the Pacific Coast Freeway adopted by the
31 California Highway C ission on May 22, 1963;

the City of Newport Beach that the California highway Commission is
hereby requested to approve public street crossings of the adopted
Route 1 Freeway in order to connect to existing Pacific Coast High-
way at the following described locations;
1. A 120 foot wide public street connection at ;vita
Drive to both sides of the Pacific Coast highway at a point
approximately 2100 feet northwesterly of the intersection
of Pacific Coast highway and MacArthur Boulevard.
2. A 120 foot wide public street connection at
Avocado Avenue to the northeast side of Pacific Coast high-
way at a point approximately 450 feet northwesterly of the
intersection of Pacific Coast highwaay and MacArthur Boulevard,
