RESOLUTION NO.
A U4SOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY ON
M1PORT BEACH REQUESTING PUBLIC STREET COITECTIONS
TO MAC ARTgIM BO°JUVARD, A DECLARED MM,.TAY
ts'rMAS, MacArthur Boulevard within the city limits of
the City of Newport Beach has been declared a freeway by action of
the California Highway Commission; and
M-12I EAS, The Irvine Company is the owner of certain real
property in the City of Newport Beach located westerly of KacArthur
Boulevard and northerly of the Pacific Coast Highway and plans to
develop a major commercial center on said property; and
PiEREAS, The Irvine Company has requested that the City
Council seek the approval of the California Highway Commission for
two public street connections to and across MacArthur Boulevard at
the locations hereinafter described in order to provide vehicular
access to said commercial center; and
WFERELS, the City Council has determined to comply with
said request solely for the purpose of accommodating The Irvine
Company; and
TiMMAS, Section 100.2 of the Streets and Highways Corte
of the State of California provides that no city street shall be
opened into or connected with any freeway unless and until the
California Highway Commission adopts a resolution consenting to
such connection; and
L = S, by adopting this resolution the City Council
wishes it to be clearly understood that it has not changed its
position as stated in Resolution No. 6099 adopted on January 11,
1965, wherein the City Council expressed its opposition to the
coastal route for the Pacific Coast Freeway adopted by the
California Highway Commission on May 22, 1963;

3 1. A 140 foot wide public street connection at a

7 point approximately 2900 feet northeasterly of the inter-

8 section of Pacific Coast Highway and MacArthur Boulevard,
91 BE IT k7JRTIMR RESOLVED that the City Clerk is instructed
10 to send copies of this resolution to the California Highway Cori-
11 mission and The Irvine Company.
