RESOLUTION NO. 6871
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH URGING THE PUBLIC TO
SERIOUSLY CONSIDER THE ISSUES TO BE VOTED ON
AT THE ORANGE COAST JUNIOR COLLEGE DISTRICT
SPECIAL ELECTION SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 179
1968, AND TO EXERCISE THEIR RIGHT TO VOTE AT
SUCH ELECTION
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of the Orange Coast
Junior College District has scheduled a special election on
September 17, 1968, for the purpose of submitting to the voters
two propositions which, if adopted, would (1) authorize the
conversion of the existing 10 -1/2 cent tax override from its
present limited use for building purposes only, in order to
make it available for use in general operations, and (2) autho-
rize a 7 -1/4 million dollar bond issue to meet the building
needs of the District for a four -year period; and
WHEREAS, both propositions to be voted upon have re-
ceived a favorable recommendation by a citizens committee
representing geographical areas throughout the District which
have studied the future financial needs of the District in
depth; and
WHEREAS, the outcome of said election will have a
substantial impact on the availability of junior college faci-
lities for today's high school and junior college youngsters;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that it urges the voters within the
Orange Coast Junior College District to give serious considera-
tion to the financial needs of the District in the light of the
projected student population, and to exercise their right to
vote at said special election.
