RESOLUTION NOo 6889
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
4p NEWPORT BEACH EXPRESSING ITS OPPOSITION TO THE
EXPENDITURE OF COUNTY GENERAL FUND MONEY FOR THE
PURPOSE OF PROVIDING FIRE STATIONS AND EQUIPMENT
TO SERVE CITIES
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Orange County is con-
sidering a proposal to create a fire service area to serve the western

portion of Orange County; and
WHEREAS, it has been requested that the County pay for the
cost of constructing and equipping the new fire stations needed to pro-
vide an extended level of fire protection within the proposed fire
service area through the expenditure of General Fund money; and
WHEREAS, most cities in Orange County, including the City of
Newport Beach, finance their own fire stations through City tax reve-
nues without financial assistance from the County of Orange; and
WHEREAS, this City Council has no objection to the use of
special fire districts to provide fire protection for small cities,
but believes that the costs of such service should be assumed by the
residents of the cities being benefited, without a subsidy from the
County General Fund;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach that it hereby expresses the position that all
cities which elect to receive fire protection from the County of
Orange by means of a special district should pay for the full cost of
the services received without subsidization from the County General
Fund;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of
• Supervisors is hereby requested not to contribute any money from the
County General Fund to provide fire protection service to cities.
