A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH OPPOSING ANY REALIGNMENT OF
• THE CORONA DEL MAR FREEWAY TO A LOCATION
SOUTHERLY OF THE ADOPTED ROUTE
WHEREAS, the present adopted route for the Corona del
Mar Freeway was adopted on November 27, 1962; and
WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Supervisors has
directed the Orange County Road Commissioner to conduct a feasi-
bility study which includes consideration of moving the adopted
Corona del Mar Freeway route 1,000 yards to the south; and
WHEREAS, construction is scheduled to start on the
Corona del Mar Freeway in 1974; and
WHEREAS, this vital transportation link is urgently
needed to cope with the surging traffic needs of the area; and
WHEREAS, any substantial change in the adopted freeway
route, such as that being proposed, undoubtedly would result in
a substantial delay in the completion of the Corona del Mar
Freeway; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has previously adopted
Resolution No. 6934 dated February 24, 1969, wherein it requested
the State Division of Highways to consider giving the construction
of the Corona del Mar Freeway a higher priority and accelerating
its completion date;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that it is the position of this Council
that it strongly opposes any change in the adopted route of the
Corona del Mar Freeway, and reaffirms its previously stated
• position that the need for said freeway is so urgent that the
commencement of construction work on the freeway should begin as
soon as possible.
