A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH MODIFYING RESOLUTION NO. 5289
RELATING.TO.HOLIDAY LEAVE AS SPECIFIED 'IN THE
PERSONNEL.POLICIES RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5289, adopted July 25, 1960,
as amended established personnel policies for all employees
of the City of Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, subsection C of Section VI of Resolution
No. 5289 sets forth holiday leave provisions; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager has recommended that
subsection C of Section VI relating to holiday leave be
amended;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that subsection C,
of Section VI of Resolution No. 5289 is amended to read:
"C. Holiday Leave. Subject to the provisions con-
tained herein, the tollowing designated days shall be
observed as paid holidays by all employees in permanent
positions except Police personnel, Fire personnel on
12 -hour shifts, personnel whose days off are other than
Saturday or Sunday, and other personnel whose work
assignments, in the judgment of the department head,
require their presence on the job. For each designated
holiday such excepted personnel shall receive an extra
day of vacation or equivalent pay, whichever in the
judgment of the department head best serves the
interests of the department.

• When a designated holiday occurs on Sunday, the
following Monday will be observed instead. When a
holiday occurs on a Saturday, all employees shall
receive an additional vacation day for such holiday.
In addition to the designated holidays listed above,
other days or portions of days may be authorized by
official proclamation of the Mayor. The Mayor.may take

such action to coincide with special holidays declared
by the President of the United States, the Governor
of the State of California, or when, in the opinion of
the Mayor, a significantly important local event merits
such action."
