• A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH ADOPTING IN PRINCIPLE THE REPORT
ENTITLED "NEWPORT TOMORROW" AND DIRECTING
• THAT SAID REPORT BE USED AS A GUIDE IN THE
DEVELOPMENT OF A GENERAL PLAN FOR THE CITY
WHEREAS, on October 13, 1970, the City Council received
a report dated August 8, 1969, entitled "Newport Tomorrow Goals
and Objectives for the City of Newport Beach ", and referred the
report to the Planning Commission for review; and
WHEREAS, the "Newport Tomorrow" Report contains proposed
planning goals for the future growth and development of the City
of Newport Beach, which were the result of an intensive 10 -month
study by 84 public spirited citizens; and
WHEREAS, on March 16, 1970, the City Council received
the recommendations of the Planning Commission concerning the
"Newport Tomorrow" Report at a joint meeting held for the purpose
of discussing said report; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to acknowledge the
valuable contribution of the Planning Commission in assisting the
City Council in reviewing the "Newport Tomorrow" Report; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes officially to adopt
the recommendations of the "Newport Tomorrow1° Report in principle;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that the "Newport Tomorrow" Report is
hereby adopted in principle as the directional planning policy of
the City, to be used as a guide in developing a general plan for
the City, with the exception of the following, which are not
accepted at this time but merit further study;
1. Annexation policy;
2. High rise development policy;

3. Design review board;
• 4. Interim zoning of property in Corona Del Mar;
• 5. Creation of a quasi- legislative body or committee
to pursue Townscape planning goals.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council commends
the members of "Newport Tomorrow" for their time - consuming study
and excellent report.
Adopted this '13th day of April, 1970.
