RESOLUTION NO. 6 6 46
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH PETITIONING THE BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS OF ORANGE COUNTY TO HAVE PROPERTY
WITHIN THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH EXEMPTED FROM
. THE LEVY OF ANY ORANGE COUNTY TAX TO PROVIDE
FIRE PROTECTION
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach is a municipal
corporation incorporated and now existing under and by virtue
of a Charter granted under the laws of the State of California;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach lies in the County
of Orange in the State of California and has for many years main-
tained and does now maintain a Fire Department with fire - fighting
equipment, chemicals and other fire - fighting devices, and with
trained, competent personnel under outstanding leadership which
said Department has available to it a water system with adequate
pressure circulated through large trunk mains, all of which has
resulted in the organized Fire Department of the City providing
adequate fire protection to all property within the corporate
limits of said City; and
WHEREAS, no additional benefit in fire protection is
received or required by such property from fire protection given
by the County; and
WHEREAS, Section 25643 of the Government Code of the
State of California provides that every City which provides its
own fire protection services and which files a resolution with
the Board of Supervisors of the County declaring that such City
is providing fire protection services within its jurisdiction
shall not have property within its corporate limits assessed
during the following fiscal year and any year thereafter for
any portion of the costs of County fire protection services.

NOWT THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach hereby authorizes and directs that
a certified copy of this resolution be presented to the honorable
Board of Supervisors of Orange County, petitioning said County
• to comply with said Government Code Section 25643 by exempting
all property within the City of Newport Beach from the levy of
any Orange County tax to provide fire protection services.
