RESOLUTION NO. 7659
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH REQUESTING ITS.LEGISLATIVE
REPRESENTATIVES TO INTRODUCE A BILL TO
AUTHORIZE A LONG TERM LEASE OF SURPLUS STATE
LAND OF FAIRVIEW STATE HOSPITAL
WHEREAS, there are certain State surplus lands along
the easterly side of the Santa Ana River, behind Fairview State
Hospital which are in a highly urbanized portion of Orange County
where there is a need for a large recreational area; and
WHEREAS, the County of Orange has recommended to the
State of California that said property should be developed for
recreational purposes, and following a preliminary investigation
has recommended that legislation be endorsed which would permit
the property to be leased to either the County of Orange or the
City of Costa Mesa, or both, for the development of valuable
recreational uses and open space; and
WHEREAS, it would be in the best interests of the citi-
zens of Newport Beach to support the County of Orange and sur-
rounding cities in this proposed action;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach does urge the Honorable Dennis Carpenter,
State Senator, 34th District, the Honorable Robert Badham, State
Assemblyman, 71st District, and the Honorable Robert H. Burke,
State Assemblyman, 70th District, to introduce in the State Legis-
lature a bill that would authorize a long term lease to the City
of Costa Mesa or the County of Orange of the surplus State land
of Fairview State Hospital in the City of Costa Mesa, in order to
create a valuable, unique regional park and open space;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Newport Beach
supports the Cities of Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley and Huntington
Beach and the County of Orange in this proposed action.
