A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH OPPOSING STATE REGULATION
OF THE CABLE TELEVISION INDUSTRY
. WHEREAS, Senate Bill 1613 and Senate Bill 663 have been
referred to the Senate Committee on Public Utilities and Corpora-
tions for interim study; and
WHEREAS, both measures provide for State regulation of
the cable television industry; and
WHEREAS, the Federal Communications Commission has
already established regulations covering the cable television
industry;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that legislation providing for State
regulation of the cable television industry is hereby opposed;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this City Council opposes
such regulation on the basis of conflict with Federal Communica-
tions Commission regulation, and directs the City Clerk to send a
copy of this resolution to the California State Senate Committee
on Public Utilities and Corporations.
ADOPTED this 10th day of October, 1972.
