A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH APPROVING THE PROPOSED
FEDERAL -AID URBAN STREET SYSTEM FOR THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH URBANIZED AREA PORTION OF
THE LOS ANGELES -LONG BEACH METROPOLITAN AREA
WHEREAS, the Federal Highway Act of 1970 directed the
establishment of a Federal -Aid Urban System for the Metropolitan
Areas; and
WHEREAS, the Federal legislation provided that routes
on the Urban System shall be selected by appropriate local
officials and the State Highway Department in cooperation with
each other; and
WHEREAS, the Los Angeles Region Transportation Study
Group of the Los Angeles -Long Beach.Metropolitan Area, in
cooperation with the Division of Highways have selected a
proposed Federal -Aid Urban System within the 1970 Bureau of
Census Urbanization Limits conforming to the instructions of
the Federal Highway Administration;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of
Newport Beach approves the proposed Federal -Aid Urban System
selected for the Newport Beach portion of the Los Angeles -
Long Beach Metropolitan Area and any changes in the Federal
Aid Secondary System and the Federal Aid Primary Type II
(TOPICS) System, all as shown on the attached map, Exhibit A,
and recommends them for submission to the Federal Highway
Administration by the California Division of Highways, with
the understanding that full consideration will be given in the
future to the inclusion of University Drive and other changes
in the urban street system resulting from the City -wide trans-
portation study that is currently in progress.
