RESOLUTION NO. 8182
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH CONFIRMING THE
PROCLAMATION MADE BY THE CHAIRMAN OF
THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH DISASTER
COUNCIL DECLARING THE EXISTENCE OF A
LOCAL EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 1513 of the City of Newport
Beach (Chapter 2.20, Newport Beach Municipal Code) empowers
the Chairman of the Disaster Council to proclaim the existence
or threatened existence of a local emergency when said city is
affected or likely to be affected by a public calamity and
the City Council is not in session, subject to confirmation
by the City Council at the earliest practicable time; and
WHEREAS, conditions of extreme peril to the safety
of persons and property have arisen within this city, caused
by flood, storm and tidal action, commencing on or about
5:00 A.M. on the 5th day of January, 1974, at which time the
City Council of the City of Newport Beach was not in session;
and
WHEREAS, said City Council does hereby find that
the aforesaid conditions of extreme peril did warrant and
necessitate the proclamation of the existence of a local
emergency; and
WHEREAS, the Chairman of the Disaster Council of the
City of Newport Beach did proclaim the existence of a local
emergency within said city on the 8th day of January, 1974;
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY PROCLAIMED AND ORDERED
that the Proclamation of Existence of a Local Emergency, as
issued by said Chairman of the Disaster Council is hereby
ratified and confirmed by the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach; and
IT IS FURTHER PROCLAIMED AND ORDERED that said local
emergency shall be deemed to continue to exist until its
termination is proclaimed by the City Council of the City
