A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH REQUESTING THE ORANGE COUNTY
DIVISION LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA CITIES TO SUPPORT
• STATE LEGISLATION REGULATING MOTORIZED BICYCLES
WHEREAS, the use of motorized bicycles, more commonly
referred to as "Mopeds ", has within recent years become a
popular mode of transportation, especially among young persons;
and
WHEREAS, Mopeds are exempt from registration by the
State Department of Motor Vehicles and are generally regulated
under local ordinances pertaining to bicycles; and
WHEREAS, there exists considerable misunderstanding
and misinformation concerning the use and licensing of these
devices; and
WHEREAS, it would be desirable to have uniform State-
wide laws governing the registration and operation of Mopeds;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach has requested its
representatives in the State Senate and Assembly to introduce
appropriate legislation regulating Mopeds.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach hereby requests the Orange County
Division of the League of California Cities to support State
legislation controlling the registration and use of Mopeds.
