A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH AUTHORIZING THE CITY ATTORNEY
TO INTERVENE ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT
BEACH AND BECOME A PARTY IN THE APPLICATIONS
OF WESTERN AIRLINES AND AIR CALIFORNIA BEFORE
THE CIVIL AERONAUTICS BOARD FOR ROUTE AUTHORITY
BETWEEN LAS VEGAS AND ORANGE COUNTY
WHEREAS, Western Airlines, Inc. and Air California
have filed applications with the Civil Aeronautics Board for
a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity for route
authority between Las Vegas and Orange County; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach is on record
officially opposed to any further expansion of Orange County
Airport; and
WHEREAS, any increased commercial jet air carrier
service at Orange County Airport will have a serious adverse
environmental impact upon the health, safety and welfare of
the citizens residing in the City of Newport Beach;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach hereby authorizes the City Attorney
on behalf of the City of Newport Beach to file the appropriate
pleadings with the Civil Aeronautics Board to become a party
to the applications of Western Airlines, Inc. and Air California;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach opposes the granting by the Civil
Aeronautics Board of any route authority to Western Airlines,
Inc. and Air California which would terminate at or serve Orange
County Airport.
ADOPTED this 28th day of November 1977.
