A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH REQUESTING THE CALIFORNIA
TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION TO PERMIT A CONNEC-
TION TO ROUTE 73 FREEWAY AT BISON AVENUE
WHEREAS by action of the State Legislature, Route 73
in the vicinity of Bison Avenue in the City of Newport Beach
is a freeway; and
WHEREAS, Sections 100.2 and 100.3 of the Streets and
Highways Code provide that no city street, county road or other
public highway shall be opened into or connected with any free-
way unless the California Transportation Commission adopts a
resolution consenting to the same and fixing terms and conditions
under which such connections shall be made; and
WHEREAS, highway planning in the area requires Bison
Avenue to connect to the adopted Route 73 freeway location for
access and circulation,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach hereby requests the California
Transportation Commission to permit a connection to the adopted
Route 73 freeway location at Bison Avenue; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Newport Beach
no longer supports the construction of the Route 73 freeway
along MacArthur Boulevard southerly of its connection to the San
Joaquin Hills Transportation Corridor (approximately Bonita
Canyon Road).
