RESOLUTION NO. 9802
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH CREATING WITHIN THE POLICE
DEPARTMENT A NEW POSITION OF RANGEMASTER/
ARMORER AT A SALARY RANGE OF 46.046- 50.046,
AND ADOPTING A JOB DESCRIPTION SETTING FORTH
THE DUTIES AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OF THE
POSITION
WHEREAS, the City Manager of the City of Newport
Beach has recommended to the City Council that.a new position
Of Rangemaster /Armorer be created within the Newport Beach
. Police Department; and
WHEREAS, the creation of said Rangemaster /Armorer
position requires the adoption of a job description which sets
forth the duties and minimum qualifications of the position;
and
WHEREAS, the creation of said Rangemaster /Armorer
position will result in certain changes to the Compensation
Plan and Table of Authorization of Permanent Employee Classes
as set forth in Resolution No. 96416 which was adopted by the
City Council on October 1, 1979,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach hereby approves the creation of
one (1) Rangemaster /Armorer position and establishes the salary
range of 46.046 - 50.046 as the compensation for that position; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the job description for
said Rangemaster /Armorer position, as set forth in Exhibit "A"
• attached hereto and by this reference made a part hereof, be
adopted as the duties and minimum qualifications for that
position; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Compensation Plan
and Table of Authorization of Permanent Employee Classes be
amended to show the inclusion of said Rangemaster /Armorer
position with a salary range as designated above.

CLASS DESCRIPTION: RANGEMASTER /ARMORER DATE:
6/9/80
DEFINITION: Under general direction of the Operational Services
Supervisor, performs rangemaster duties for the Police Depart-
ment firearms range.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Provide instruction in firearms proficiency
and safety; maintain and repair all City -owned weapons and
officers' personal weapons which may be carried on duty; per-
form preventative maintenance and repairs on the range; perform
building maintenance, repair and renovation; and perform other
work as required or assigned.
SUPERVISION: None.

High School graduate, or G. E. D. equivalency.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Background must be free from conviction of a
felony or a misdemeanor involving moral
turpitude or assaultive behavior.
LICENSE: Must possess valid California Driver's License
SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND .ABILITIES: Familiarity with
weapons training; maintenance of firearms; demonstrated ability
to perform routine maintenance tasks; ability to read, under-
stand, interpret and apply departmental policies and rules;
write clear and comprehensive reports; and ability to establish
and maintain effective relationships with others.
