A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH AUTHORIZING THE
FIRE AND MARINE DEPARTMENT TO ACCEPT A
DEPARTMENT OF TOXIC SUBSTANCES CONTROL
GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $5,304.00 TO
PURCHASE HAZARDOUS MATERIALS EMERGENCY
RESPONSE EQUIPMENT.
• WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach City Council recognizes
that it is in the public interest to protect its citizens, their
property and the environment in the event of a hazardous materials
incident; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has designated the Newport Beach
Fire and Marine Department as the responsible department for
safeguarding the public health and the environment from the
impacts from hazardous materials incidents; and
WHEREAS, additional equipment, including a laptop computer
to enhance on -scene research and communication capabilities, would
improve the Fire and Marine Department's hazardous materials
incident response capabilities; and
WHEREAS, funds are available from the State of California
Enivronmental Protection Agency, Department of Toxic Substances
Control (DTSC), to provide hazardous materials emergency response
equipment to local agencies;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Newport
Beach City Council hereby authorizes the Fire and Marine
Department to accept the grant for the purpose stated above.
