A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH DESIGNATING THE
PROPERTY AT 700 E. BAY AVENUE AND
701 EDGEWATER AS A PLACE OF HISTORICAL
INTEREST
WHEREAS, the owner of the property at 700 E. Bay Avenue and 701 Edgewater
has submitted an application to the City requesting that the property be added to the City
of Newport Beach Register of Historical Property; and
WHEREAS, the owner has stated that the building was constructed in 1926 and
was the first marine hardware store in Orange County with a marine rail way; and
WHEREAS, the building has played a significant role in the social and industrial
• history of the City of Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, the brick design and construction methods of the building are
significant to the 1926 time period in which it was built; and
WHEREAS, the Newport Beach Historical Society, the Newport Beach Arts
Commission, and the Newport Beach Parks, Beaches & Recreation Commission have
reviewed the application and have recommended its approval; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the history of the property warrants its
designation as a Local Historical Site (Class 3) under the classification system established
by City Council Policy K -2.
• NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach does hereby designate the property at 700 E. Bay Avenue and 701

Edgewater as a Local Historic Site (Class 3) and directs the City Clerk to place the
property in the Register of Historical Property.
