A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH DECLARING INLINE SKATING A
HAZARDOUS RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY
WHEREAS, there is an increase in the number of inline skaters throughout the
City of Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, inline skating creates a substantial risk of injuries to participants or
spectators; and
WHEREAS, Health & Safety Code, section 115800.1 provides that inline skating
by an adult is a hazardous recreational activity within the meaning of Government Code,
section 831.7 if the City (1) designates by Resolution specific public property where inline
• skating
is permitted,
and
(2) the designated
property is adequately posted with notices
advising
the public
that
inline skating by
an adult on the designated property is a
•
hazardous recreational activity and that the public entity may not be liable for any injuries
occurring to persons participating in the activity.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Newport
Beach. as follows:
1. The City of Newport Beach determines that inline skating is a hazardous
recreational activity as that term in defined in Government Code, section 831.7;
2. Inline skating is authorized on Back Bay Drive, the Oceanfront sidewalk and
Seashore Drive;
3. The City of Newport Beach will post notices as required by law.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Manager is authorized to sign all
• documents and to carry out the provisions of this Resolution.
