HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-13 - SkateboardingRESOLUTION NO. 2002 -13 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH PROHIBITING SKATEBOARDING ON CERTAIN STREETS, SIDEWALKS, PARKS, AND PUBLIC AREAS AND RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 2000 -19 WHEREAS, Section 12.57.020 of the Newport Beach Municipal Code provides that the City Council may prohibit skateboarding by resolution on certain public streets, sidewalks, parking lots, and other public property located in the City when it has been determined necessary to protect the health, safety and welfare of pedestrians, motorists or persons operating skateboards; and WHEREAS, on February 23, 2000 the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2000 -19 prohibiting skateboarding on certain streets and sidewalks; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that there is also a need to prohibit skateboarding in City parks and certain public areas; and WHEREAS, Resolution No. 2000 -19 does not prohibit skateboarding in City parks and certain public areas; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that there is a need for prohibiting skateboards on the following streets, sidewalks, public areas, and parks: STREETS, SIDEWALKS, AND PUBLIC AREAS: East Balboa Boulevard between Main Street and "G" Street Main Street Washington Street between Ocean Front and Edgewater Place Palm Street between Ocean Front and Edgewater Place Edgewater Place between Coronado Street and "A" Street Bay Avenue between Main Street and Palm Street Ocean Front between Adams Street and "A" Street Marine Avenue between North Bayfront and 90 feet south of centerline of Park Avenue City Hall property located at 3300 Newport Boulevard McFadden Place between Balboa Boulevard and the Pacific Ocean Ocean Front 21 st Place The Ocean Front Parking Lot 15th Street and area adjacent to 15th Street public restroom 100 block of Agate Avenue North Bayfront sidewalk South Bayfront sidewalk East Bayfront sidewalk Arches Interchange — West Coast Highway at Newport Boulevard PARKS: Brickwork, ornamental surfaces, picnic tables, benches, park seating areas, tennis courts, handball courts, steps, stairs, planter walls, retaining walls, sculptures or handrails located in any City park or recreation area. Any designated paved park area with a grade of 6% or greater located at one any of the following parks: Arroyo Park Bayview Park Begonia Park Bolsa Park Bonita Canyon Sports Park Buffalo Hills Park Castaways Park Cliff Drive Park Corona Del Mar State Beach Eastbluff Park Ensign View Park Grant Howald Park Harbor View Nature Park Irvine Terrace Park Inspiration Point Jasmine Creek View Park Lido Park Little Corona Park San Miguel Park Spyglass Hill Park Westcliff Park NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach, that the following streets, sidewalks, public areas, and parks are hereby designated as locations where skateboarding is prohibited: STREET, SIDEWALKS, AND PUBLIC AREAS: East Balboa Boulevard between Main Street and "G" Street Main Street Washington Street between Ocean Front and Edgewater Place Palm Street between Ocean Front and Edgewater Place Edgewater Place between Coronado Street and "A" Street Bay Avenue between Main Street and Palm Street Ocean Front between Adams Street and "A" Street Marine Avenue between North Bayfront and 90 feet south of centerline of Park Avenue City Hall property located at 3300 Newport Boulevard McFadden Place between Balboa Boulevard and the Pacific Ocean Ocean Front 21st Place The Ocean Front Parking Lot 15th Street and area adjacent to 15th Street public restroom 100 block of Agate Avenue North Bayfront sidewalk South Bayfront sidewalk East Bayfront sidewalk Arches Interchange — West Coast Highway at Newport Boulevard PARKS: Brickwork, ornamental surfaces, picnic tables, benches, park seating areas, tennis courts, handball courts, steps, stairs, planter walls, retaining walls, sculptures or handrails located in any City park or recreation area. ATTEST: City Clerk BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Resolution 2000 -19 is hereby rescinded. ADOPTED this 22 "d day of January, 2002. STATE OF CALIFORNIA } COUNTY OF ORANGE } SS.
