A RESOLUTION OF CITY COUNCIL. OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH REQUESTING A.GRANT IN THE AMOUNT'.
OF $15,000 FROM THE CALIFORNIA. COASTAL COMMISSION
FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SELF SUSTAINING

FOCUSING ON. THE IMPACT OF WATERSHED RUNOFF AND
ITS IMPACT IN THE SURROUNDING REGION.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH HEREBY FINDS,
RESOLVES AND ORDERS AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach is desirous of creating a self
sustaining chemistry lesson for high school students to learn about the impact of
watersheds on their local beach, and marine environments; and
WHEREAS, for the purposes of this project, self sustaining means all
tuition fees will. be reinvested in the program to pay for supplies; and
WHEREAS, the California Coastal Commission is authorized to provide
grants to non - profit organizations or government entities; for development of
youth programs; and
/ 1 WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach is willing to enter an agreement to
1 provide an educational experience to all interested parties at no cost other than
the original grant;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council by adoption
of this resolution hereby requests the California Coastal Commission to provide a
grant for the purposes of developing a self sustaining chemistry lesson for high:
school students.
PASSED, APPROVED AND .ADOPTED BY THE NEWPORT BEACH CITY
COUNCIL BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE.
