• RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPER-
VISORS OF THE COUNTY OF ORANGE TO CONSOLIDATE
A GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION OF SAID CITY TO
BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 6, 1984, WITH THE STATE-
WIDE GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON SAID DATE,
PURSUANT TO SECTION 23302 OF THE ELECTIONS
CODE
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach
called a General Municipal Election in said City to be held on
November 6, 1984, for the purpose of the election of 3 members of
the City Council of said City for four year terms; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of said city also submitted
to the qualified electors of said city at said election the two
measures relating to proposed charter amendments; and
WHEREAS, it is desirable that said General Municipal
Election be consolidated with the Statewide General Election to
be held on the same date and that within said City, the
precincts, polling places and election officers of the two elec-
tions be the same, and that the Registrar of Voters of the County
of Orange, canvass the returns of the General Municipal Election
and that said Statewide General Election and General Municipal
Election be held in all respects as if there were only one
election;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Newport
Beach does hereby resolve, determine and order as follows:
SECTION 1. That pursuant to the requirements of Section
23302 of the Elections Code, the Board of Supervisors of the
County of Orange is hereby requested to consent and agree to the
• consolidation of a General Municipal Election with the Statewide
General Election on Tuesday, November 6, 1984, for the purpose of
electing 3 members of the City Council of said city for the term
of four years and for the purpose of submitting to the qualified
electors two measures relating to proposed Charter amendments.

SECTION 2. That the measures relating to proposed
Charter amendments appear on the ballot as follows:
MEASURE 1 - CHARTER AMENDMENT
Shall the City Charter of the City of
Newport Beach be amended to change the
date on which the term of a newly elected
Councilmember commences from January 1st
to the date on which the Council receives
certification of election results?
MEASURE 2 - CHARTER
Should the City Charter of the City of
Newport Beach be amended to change the
date on which the Mayor is selected
from the first Tuesday following any General
or Special Municipal Election to the date on
which newly elected Councilmembers are sworn
and qualified?
SECTION 3. Said Registrar of Voters is hereby authoriz-
ed to canvass the returns of said General Municipal Election
which it is hereby requested to consolidate with the Statewide
General Election and said election shall be held in all respects
as if there were only one election, and only one form of ballot
shall be used.
SECTION 4. Said Board of Supervisors is hereby request-
ed to issue instructions to the Registrar of Voters to take any
and all steps necessary for the holding of said consolidated
election.
SECTION 5. The City of Newport Beach recognizes that
additional costs will be incurred by the County by reason of this
consolidation and agrees to reimburse the County for any such
costs.
SECTION 6. That the City Clerk of the City of Newport
Beach is hereby directed to file a certified copy of this Resolu-
tion with the Board of Supervisors and the Registrar of Voters of
the County of Orange.
