A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT
BEACH REQUESTING THE COUNTY OF ORANGE TO ALLOCATE FUNDS
FOR BALBOA BOULEVARD STREET WIDENING IN CONNECTION WITH
THE ARTERIAL HIGHWAY FINANCING PROGRAM FOR FISCAL YEAR
. 1985 -86
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach desires to widen and make street
improvements to Balboa Boulevard from 33rd to 44th Streets over a three -year
period of time; and
WHEREAS, this being the second year of said period; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Orange County allocated County
funds in the amount of $250,000 for partial acquisition of right of way on
Balboa Boulevard during the past fiscal year; and
WHEREAS, Balboa Boulevard is classified as a primary roadway on both
the City's Master Plan of Streets and Highways and the Orange County Master
Plan of Arterial Highways and as such, is of general County interest; and
WHEREAS, Articles 2 and 3, Chapter 9, Division 2 of the Streets and
Highways Code authorizes a county, if it so desires, to expend funds appor-
tioned to it from the California Highway Users' Tax Fund for aid to any City
for the improvement, construction or repair of a street within a City; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Orange intends to,
by appropriate action, provide in its County budget for Special Road Improve-
ments funds for fiscal year 1985 -1986, a sum of money for the improvement of
streets within the incorporated cities of the County in accordance with the
Orange County Arterial Highway Financial Program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach hereby requests the Board of Supervisors of the County of Orange
to allocate to said City, from County funds, the amount of $372,600, said
amount to be matched.by funds from the City, which shall be used to aid said
City in the acquisition of the remaining right of way for the widening of
• Balboa Boulevard from 33rd to 44th Streets and the cost of preparing the
Environmental Impact Report.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Newport Beach agrees with
the basic concepts of the Arterial Highway Financing Program and further
agrees that its share of the cost for right -of -way acquisition will be avail-
0 able for fiscal year 1985 -1986; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the
County of Orange be and hereby are requested to find and determine that the
work described herein is of interest to the County in general and include
Newport Beach in its appropriation.
