A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT
BEACH REQUESTING THE COUNTY OF ORANGE TO ALLOCATE FUNDS
FOR BALBOA BOULEVARD STREET WIDENING IN CONNECTION WITH
THE ARTERIAL HIGHWAY FINANCING PROGRAM FOR FISCAL YEAR
• 1986 -87
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach desires to widen and make street
improvements to Balboa Boulevard from 32nd to 44th Streets; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Orange County allocated Arterial
Highway Financing Program (AHFP) funds for acquisition of right of way and the
preparation of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) on Balboa Boulevard during
the past two fiscal years; and
WHEREAS, Balboa Boulevard is classified as a primary roadway on both
the City's Master Plan of Streets and Highways and the Orange County Master Plan
of Arterial Highways and as such, is of general County interest; and
WHEREAS, Articles 2 and 3, Chapter 9, Division 2 of the Streets and
Highways Code authorizes a county, if it so desires, to expend funds apportioned
to it from the California Highway Users' Tax Fund for aid to any city for the
improvement, construction or repair of a street within a city; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Orange intends to,
by appropriate action, provide in its County budget for Special Road
Improvements funds for fiscal year 1986 -1987, a sum of money for the improvement
of streets within the incorporated cities of the County in accordance with the
Orange County Arterial Highway Financial Program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach hereby requests the Board of Supervisors of the County of Orange
to allocate to said City, from County funds, the amount of $589,000, said amount
• to be matched by funds from the City, which shall be used to aid said City in
the improvement of Balboa Boulevard from 32nd to 44th Streets.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Newport Beach agrees with the
basic concepts of the Arterial Highway Financing Program and further agrees that
its share of the cost for improvements on Balboa Boulevard will be available for
fiscal year 1986 -87; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of
• Orange be and hereby are requested to find and determine that the work described
herein is of interest to the County in general and include Newport Beach in its
appropriation.
