A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF' THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
ADOPTING AMENDMENT NO. ll(B) TO THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
LOCAL COASTAL PROGRAM, LAND USE: PLAN, ADDING LANGUAGE
PERMITTING THE USE OF RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES ADJACENT TO
• COMMERCIAL AREAS FOR PARKING LOTS
WHEREAS, the Coastal Act Of 1976 requires the City of
Newport Beach to prepare a local coastal. program; and
WHEREAS, as a part of the development and implementation of
the Coastal Act, a Local Coastal Program, Land Use Plan has been
prepared; and
WHEREAS, said Land Use Plan sets forth the objectives and
supporting policies which serve as a guide for the future development
in the coastal zone in the City of Newport Beach; and
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission has held a public hearing
to consider this amendment to the Local Coastal Program, Land Use Plan
and recommended that the City Council approve this amendment; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has held a public hearing to
consider this amendment to the Local Coastal Program, Land Use Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Planning Commission
of the City of Newport Beach does hereby approve Amendment No. ll(B)
to the Local Coastal Program, Land Use Plan, adding language to page
36 as follows:
"Residential
Areas designated residential are to be used mainly for
residences in permanently constructed residential buildings;
however, there are certain "community service" uses such as
schools, churches, civic organization buildings, clubhouses,
and recreational facilities such as tennis courts, pools,
and cabanas which, with proper :Location and design, are
appropriate uses within areas with a residential desig-
nation. Public or no fee private parking lots for automo-
biles may be permitted in any residential area adjacent to
any commercial area subject to the approval of a use per-
mit."
ADOPTED this 26th day of January, 1987, by the following
vote, to wit:
