A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH: DIRECTING THE
PLANNING COMMISSION TO CONSIDER AMEND-
MENTS TO THE MARINER'S MILE SPECIFIC AREA
PLAN
WHEREAS, the Ad Hoc Mariner's Mile Specific Area
Plan Review Committee was directed to consider amendments to
the Mariner's Mile Specific Area Plan in the areas of land
use, building intensities and height limits; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Newport Heights
Community Association and the Mariner's Mile Association
represented the viewpoints of homeowners and business owners;
and
WHEREAS, the Committee met for two and one -half
years and considered many alternatives to possible amendments
to the Specific Area Plan; and
WHEREAS, upon completion of review of the Specific
Area Plan the Committee presented the City Council with a
recommended project description and alternatives to the
project; and
WHEREAS, the City Council concurred with the
recommendation of the AD Hoc Committee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach that the Planning Commission is
directed to hold public hearings and consider amendments to
the Mariner's Mile Specific Area Plan upon completion by
staff of all required environmental documents. The amend-
ments to be considered will include a reduction of the
permitted floor area ratio to 0.5/0.8 FAR, changes to the
land use provisions to be consistent with the certified Local
Coastal Program, revisions to the definitions by which
building height is measured and provisions regarding the
orientation of roof elements higher than 26 feet.
ADOPTED this 9th day of March , 1987.
