A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH ESTABLISHING THE AD HOC
CITIZENS' ADVISORY COMMITTEIE ON THE
BICENTENNIAL OF THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION
AND ESTABLISHING THE DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES.
• WHEREAS, the United States Constitution was signed on
September 17, 1787, and
WHEREAS, national, state and local affairs committees
have been established to celebrate the bicentennial anniversary
of the signing of the Constitution; and
WHEREAS, the Bicentennial Commemoration of the
Constitution spans four (4) years, concluding with the 200th
anniversary of the adoption of the Bill of Rights in 1991; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach
desires to establish a committee to coordinate the plans and
observance of the Bicentennial Commemoration of the United States
Constitution.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Newport Beach that the Ad Hoc Citizens' Advisory
Committee on the Bicentennial Commemoration of the United States
Constitution is hereby established.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the composition, function
and duties of the committee shall be as follows:
1. Membership:
The memership shall include a member of the City
Council appointed by the Mayor, fifteen (15) members appointed by
the Mayor, one (1) member of the Youth Council appointed by the
Youth Council Chairman, two (2) representatives of the School
District appointed by the School Board; Liason from the Parks,
Beaches and Recreation Department. The committee shall appoint
any necessary working subcommittees.

2. Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Committee
shall be to plan commemorative events celebrating the signing of
the United States Constitution, ratification of the Constitution,
establishment of the Federal Government required by the
Constitution and adoption of the Bill of Rights.
3. Termination:
The Committee shall sunset on December 31, 1991.
