HomeMy WebLinkAbout93-1 - Bicycle Path Widening on Seashore DriveRESOLUTION NO. 93 -1
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH RESCINDING RESOLUTION 92 -53
RELATING TO WIDENING OF THE BICYCLE PATH ON
SEASHORE DRIVE.
WHEREAS, in May, 1992, the City Council adopted Resolution 92-
• 53 which directed the Traffic Engineer to widen the bicycle path on
Seashore Drive, between the Santa Ana River and 36th Street; and
•
WHEREAS, subsequent to the adoption of Resolution 92 -53, the
Traffic Engineer conducted additional analysis regarding the
implication of a wider bicycle path in terms of the safety of users
and concluded that a wider bicycle path could bring cyclists closer
to vehicles exiting garages on the south side of Seashore and give
drivers less opportunity to avoid cyclists when backing out onto
the roadway; and
WHEREAS, City staff also determined that widening of the
bicycle path along Seashore Drive reduced the width of the area
between the current bicycle path and physical structures on private
property thereby diminishing the area available for vehicle
parking; and
WHEREAS, the City Council believes that the Seashore-
Oceanfront Comprehensive Plan Committee is the appropriate vehicle
for analyzing and addressing potential changes to the circulation
system on Seashore Drive and the Council would prefer to await
recommendations from that Committee before taking final action
relative to changes in circulation along Seashore Drive.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Newport Beach as follows:
1. Resolution No. 92 -53 is hereby rescinded.
ADOPTED, this 11th da,
