A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH ESTABLISHING FEES FOR COPYING
PUBLIC RECORDS PURSUANT TO SECTION 6257 OF THE
CALIFORNIA GOVERNMENT CODE AND RESCINDING
RESOLUTION NO. 91 -64.
•WHEREAS, Section 6257 of the California Government Code
provides that a local agency may establish a fee to copy an
identifiable public record, which fee shall not exceed the actual
cost of providing the copy; and
WHEREAS, the fees set forth hereinafter represent the actual
cost to the City of Newport Beach in providing copies of
identifiable public records;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Newport Beach as follows:
1. The following fees are established as the fees to be
charged for providing copies of identifiable public
records maintained by the City of Newport Beach. Said

are
as follows:
A.
For
all departments, excluding Fire and Police:
1.
Fifty cents ($.50) for the first page and
twenty -five cents ($.25) for each page
thereafter;
2.
For computer - generated records, five cents
($.05) per record or name;
B.
For
the Fire Department:
Six
dollars ($6.00) per report, regardless of the
number of pages;
C.
For
the Police Department:
1.
Twenty -five dollars ($25.00) per report, for
arrest, crime and traffic collision reports,
regardless of the number of pages;

2.
Three dollars ($3.00) per page for
supplemental, follow -up and miscellaneous
reports;

3. Twenty dollars ($20.00) for fingerprint
cards;
4.
Twenty dollars ($20.00) each for clearance
letters;
D. For
records not readily retrievable, records
requiring
extensive review or research, or records
requiring
reproduction from multiple files:
1.
The actual hourly rate of the person
doing the research and copying, plus a
thirty percent (30 %) overhead charge;
2.
Black and white 8" x lo" photographs:
twelve dollars ($12.00) each;
3.
Color 5" x 10" photographs: twelve dollars
($12.00) each;
4.
Contact sheets: twelve dollars ($12.00)
each;
5.
Audiotapes: fifty dollars ($50.00) per hour
of staff time to reproduce the tape, with
a minimum charge of one (1) hour;
6.
Videotapes: two hundred dollars ($200.00)
for first ten minutes of tape, one hundred
dollars ($100.00) for each additional ten
minutes of tape;
7.
Polaroid copies: ten dollars ($10.00) each.
2. The fees shall become effective May 1, 1993.
3. Resolution No. 91 -64 is hereby rescinded effective
• May 1, 1993.
4. These fees shall be automatically increased or decreased
annually based on the percentage change in the cost
• of doing business as measured by the United States
Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Consumer
Price Index, for All Urban Consumers for the Los Angeles -
Long Beach - Riverside Area, All Items (1967 =100) for the
preceding twelve (12) months, rounded to the nearest
quarter.
