The program is directed at junior and senior students to discourage them from drinking and driving. At one point during the day there is a "crash" staged on a street behind the school. The juniors and seniors are escorted to the scene whereby they are witness to three seriously injured students and one "DUI" driver. With the participation of the CHP, Newport Beach Police Department and Newport Beach Fire Department the students are given a true -to -life view of what happens when poor decisions end up in potentially fatal circumstances. This letter is to personally thank the Newport Beach Fire Department for the fire personnel who volunteered their time and the equipment made available to bring this part of the program to life for our students. In addition, a number of your fire personnel participated over the course of the months it took to help Rachel plan this project and discuss the ramifications of drinking and driving with the lead students who participated. A special thanks for this goes to firefighters Ron Gutierrez and Charlie Dal] for their help in the months of planning and coordination to bring all facets of this program together. Enclosed is a copy of the final video that was shown at the junior /senior assembly on the 31' as well as commemorative shirts of the event. Please keep them as our thanks. I am sending a copy of this letter and video to Mayor Todd Ridgeway and the Newport Beach City Council to insure the efforts of your department receives the proper recognition it deserves. Corona Del Mar High School was deeply affected by these two days with nothing but positive feedback from students and parents alike. Thank you.
