BACKGROUND: The ten suppliers invited to participate in the bid process for the 2005 Junior Lifeguard uniform contract either participated in previous years or requested to be included for 2005. This year's process was unique as we only had two of the ten bid requests returned; the bids were for $131,260.00 by Generic Youth, and $133,000.00 by Toes on the Nose (excluding sales tax). Both suppliers can provide what we consider acceptable quality for what our participants have come to expect from our Junior Lifeguard Program. Through an established review process, we carefully looked at sample uniforms, the quote, a reference check, and past performance dealing with the City and our Program. Generic Youth, our recommended vendor, is a new line of the local Paul Frank Company. We were pleased with their designer in 2000 and 2001. We are confident that Generic Youth will provide the Junior Lifeguard Program with a contemporary, durable product that will satisfy our participants and their discriminating parents.
