CITY COUNCIL STAFF REPORT
Agenda Item No. 17
September 27, 2005
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: Office of the City Manager
Homer L. Bludau, City Manager
949 - 644 -3000, hbludau .city.newport- beach.ca.us
SUBJECT: REPORT FROM CITY HALL RELOCATION SPECIALISTS
REGARDING TEMPORARY RELOCATION OPTIONS
ISSUES:
What is the status of the search for a site to relocate our City Hall operations, if Council
chooses to move forward with the civic center project?
RECOMMENDATION:
Discuss and provide direction.
BACKGROUND:
On June 14, 2005, the City Council approved entering into an agreement with CB
Richard Ellis to act as the City's agent in seeking suitable quarters to locate City Hall.
Agents Jeff Morgan and Dean Chandler are handling this search for the City. Based on
their having time to search the market, the City Manager has asked them to provide a
status report of their search as to whether there are suitable locations at cost effective
prices to relocate the City Hall functions for 12 -18 months during the construction of the
civic center complex.
To answer these questions precisely, our agents need to know the exact time frame the
space is needed and that a commitment has been made to the project that will
necessitate a relocation of the City Hall functions and the entering into of a lease
commitment for temporary space.
