Dredging —Upper Newport Bay
Pre - Construction meeting on October 7. Work will start
in -3 -4 weeks.
Most of the same employees were present, but I took the
opportunity to re- emphasize the complexities of our
harbor and how the barge traffic affects harbor activities.
i.e. regular regattas, NAC annual rowing event November 1,
Christmas Boat Parade etc...
Is the "Sea Lion Season" Over ??
..We hope so!

RGP -54 — Small Victory
Our current Regional General Permit (RGP -54) has two
components:
Dredging — 5 year permit expires in October 2011
Dock Construction — 3 year "trial" permit expires October
2009
We applied for a 2 year extension for dock construction, and
were successful at last week's CCC meeting in Oceanside.
Next Steps:
Begin the process for RGP -54 renewal in 2011 which will probably
include a full testing program.

The City of Newport Beach, Project- GreenWorks and the American Legion Yacht Club will be hosting an
upcoming Newport Beach Clean Boating Network Conference. This is an educational forum and outreach
group of local marine businesses and boaters promoting envronatentally sound boating practices. Mark your
calendars:

• Boat Owners Pump Out Services
• Marina Operators Ship Yards
• Fuel Dock Operators Paint Manufacluras/Retailers
• Hull Cleaning Services Government/Environmental Stakeholders
The following individuals will he making formal presentations:
• Marlin Hoffman with California Professional Divas Assoc. will speak on
bottom paint toxicity and choosing an effectiveness polluting bottom paint as
well as how they work and what is new on the horizon.
• Ray Hiemstra with Orange County Coast Keeper will be giving us an update on
the copper TMDL for Newport Harbor and how it will effect each of us.
• Vendor presentations (five minutes each) for products.
• Also, are you aware that the State Water Resources Control Board is working on a very
stringent monitoring and reporting requirement for all marinas in the state that contain ten or
more boats? Will this effect you?
• Question and answer period and time to network with others in your industry .
